Steven A. Smola, age 60, formerly of Vernon Hills, died Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Janesville, Wisconsin. He was born October 4, 1954 in Chicago, to Eugene D. and Victoria M. (Pedretti) Smola.

Steven was a resident of Janesville for the past six months, having moved from Friendship, Wisconsin, where he lived for two years. Previously, Steven was a resident of Vernon Hills.

For his entire career, Steven worked in the field of carpentry. He was a gifted and skilled carpenter who took pride doing extraordinary work.

Favorite pastimes included fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by three children, Stevilyn (Randy) Dugan, Jordan (Valerie) Smola, and Steven J. Smola; two grandchildren with another on the way, Blake and Harrison; four brothers, Daniel Smola, Dino Smola, Joseph (Pam) Smola, Eugene Smola; his sister, Vicki Heim-Wood; and his close friend and caregiver, Tana Kaptchen.

Friends may visit with his family from noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The memorial service will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
